What are the secrets to preserving your centuries-old wooden furniture with its first-day elegance? Wood is a living material that continues to breathe even centuries after it has been cut and crafted.

1. Climate Control and Positioning
The greatest enemies of wooden artifacts are sudden changes in temperature and humidity. Never place an antique dresser or dining table directly next to a radiator, fireplace, or air conditioner. Extreme dryness causes the wood to crack, while excessive humidity causes it to swell and veneers to peel. The ideal room humidity should be between 40% and 60%.
2. Protection from Sunlight
Direct and continuous sunlight causes the original polish (such as shellac) on the wood to yellow and the wood color to fade. Keep your rare pieces away from windows or provide filtering by keeping your curtains closed during the hours when the sun is most intense.
"The value of an antique is hidden in its traces of life. Our goal is not to make it look brand new, but to preserve it by honoring its history."
3. Daily Cleaning and Dusting
Keep today's modern, silicone-based furniture sprays strictly away from your antiques. These sprays clog the pores of the wood and over time form a sticky, matte layer. To dust, use only a soft, lint-free (e.g., microfiber or an old cotton t-shirt) slightly damp cloth, and dry it immediately afterward.
4. Nourishing and Polishing
To prevent the wood from drying out, it needs to be nourished once or twice a year with a high-quality natural beeswax. Beeswax gives the wood a natural shine and forms a protective barrier against moisture. Apply it in a thin layer, wait for the wood to absorb it, and polish it with circular motions using a soft cloth.
